“ .
. . astrology represents the summation
of all the
psychological knowledge of antiquity.”
“We
are born at a given moment in a given place
and like vintage
years of wine we have the qualities
of the year
and of the season in which we are born.
Astrology
does not lay claim to anything else.”
--- Carl Jung
Astrology offers insight
to one’s own nature. Knowing one’s own nature can often bring a way of self acceptance and peace with who one
is. I like the analogy of the giraffe and the tiger. The giraffe’s nature is to eat vegetation from the tree tops
during the day and roam the savannah. The tiger’s nature is to stalk and kill prey, eat meat, and roam the darker forages
of the jungle. How unfair it would be for us to expect the giraffe to behave like a tiger, to hunt and kill prey and eat meat.
And vice versa. How unfair it would be for us to expect a tiger to eat leaves from the tree tops. Both in family
culture and culture outside of family we sometimes expect one another to live in ways that we or they can't muster the
same energy for.
What happens to a person
born into a culture where all allegiance is given to one gender or one family member who has an almost complete control over
this person and where that person may have a preponderance of planets located in fire and air signs requiring freedom
of movement to explore, create, and be different? What happens to another person born into an independent “pull
yourself up by your own bootstraps” culture when this person may have a preponderance of “water” energy
requiring more dependence and passivity?
For those not familiar
with astrology the assumption is often made that our psyches all pretty much work the same. Astrology shows us otherwise.
We each have different needs in different areas of our lives in how we express the energies we contain within us. How we express
those energies will have different tones or qualities. For some it is more natural to put more energy or assertiveness into
a career, for another maybe the same energy better expresses itself in matters at home.
When I do an astrological
consultation it is an exploration with the client about what astrology might offer around an issue, a relationship, or, how
the client is living out the energies within himself. The intent is to make conscious what on some level what one already
knows. The intent is to become familiar with one’s own needs and the needs of those one may be related to so as to have
a better perspective of how things are or why they are the way that they are.
